:: Beijing Design Week Installation ::

Craftower


BaO is currently working on a proposal for an installation that will be shown this autumn during the Beijing Design Week: The trapped tower. The installation will take the form of a cartesian mini-skyscraper will be build within a seemingly art-nouveaux building located just few hudred meters south of TianAnMen square. It will be used as an exhibition and discussions infrastructure for the Making Futures Forum in partnership with the university of Plymouth and the Beijing Design Week.

2013-2014 projects


We just updated our website with our most recent projects. This last year works include a 50 meters long blue table in the streets of Songzhuang, customizable social housing, a sliced-up building for the Confucius Institute, sanitation projects in villages in Gansu and Yunnan, and pine tree barks filled exhibition spaces... Nearing completion


BaO worked on a villa transformation in Hebei that is almost completed. The house was originally a typical Sino-European hybrid within which we literally carved-out a multilevel central void. The void acts as a kind of spatial event in an otherwise traditional layout of the house, an accident that entirely reorganizes the whole structure...

BaiQuan Roof



Construction of the Baiquan roof is going to begin shortly. The project is a retroffiting and transformation of exisiting toilets in a village school near Tianshui in Gansu. A large autonomous roof will hover above and reprogram exisiting dilapidated structures and outdoor spaces in a complete safe and sustainable sanitation facility...

Yingpan School project



We are currently working with the Huayi Brothers Foundation on a project in Yingpan's school, Yunnan. The project consists of two small composting toilets buildings that are camouflaged within a nearby sugarcane plantation as well as the retrofitting of an exisiting building into a sustainable bathouse. The new structures are all designed on principles of "half-buildings": solid bases on pilotis + lightweight bamboo roofs ...

BaO teamed-up with CPYA and JML to build an installation in the streets of Songzhuang for the annual art festival. We proposed and implemented a 50 meters long blue "public table" that acted as a piece of equipment inciting informal gatherings, grassroots street's occupation, appropriation and activation, and collectively improvised events...
